CIPRESSI DI SAN FEDELE

This work was completed in October 2010 in a makeshift studio in the de-consecrated chapel at the San Fedele Monastery in Tuscany. Going deep into the Cypresses, I let go of the sweeping, seductive landscape that I’m usually drawn to in this part of the world. Instead, I got lost in the darks that were layered upon still other darks. Every now and then a persistent slice of afternoon sunlight or ethereal, morning mist slid past the obscured edges that separates one tree from another, let in some air and suggested a whisper of space…  it was the sheer magnitude of these trees when viewed as an impenetrable family fortress that left an impression on me.
